Insulin smell and GB going up

I started my Micio on 0.5u Semglee 3 days ago and I noticed his GB is going up; I know it takes some time to adjust but I'm also concerned that I may not doing it right. I believe I'm injecting through his skin rather than fur shots but the smell!! I can smell Semglee insulin as soon as, after I drawn from the pen and check for bubbles, I push out the extra....is that right?
Then, after I poke the skin, I make sure the needle is in all the way (at least it appears to be); the amount I'm injecting is so small that, even if I furshot, I don't feel any wet spot but I can still smell just a little bit of insulin on the fur.
Syringes I'm using are ReliOn 31 Gauge, 3/10 ml with 1/2 unit markings and 8mm needle
