Insulin Cost!

I picked up our cat's first script for Lantus last night and almost had a heart attack... $268 for 30 day supply. The vial contains 1,000 units but is only good for 1 month after opening, so we'll be throwing out WAY more than we use (1 unit 2x per day).

Please, someone tell me there is a more cost-efficient solution. I'll be talking to our vet Monday, but am hoping that someone can tell me that there's a light at the end of the tunnel before Monday because I'll be worrying about this all weekend!

Thanks...
Sabrina

The vial will last you about 5-6 months when stored in the refrigerator and treated gently. I got about 5 months from each of mine and so do most. IF you get the pens next time you will get more insulin and it comes out cheaper in the long run.

The 30 day thing is for humans. ...I got about 6 1/2 months out of Skooter's first vial and now I have pens. I got them through a pharmacy in Canada and paid like $150, which included the shipping....I am probablt set for 12 to 15 months now as skooter vets .25 BID.....I started the first pen October 24th and still have a bit left before going to the next pen....

We're on about day 70 for our current pen. Check out GoodRx.com . The can give you prices for all the pharmacies in your area.
