Insulin and feeding schedules

With Milo’s insulin injections supposed to be 12 hours apart, I am having trouble scheduling. We are retired and sleep in a little, so the cats eat about 9 am and Milo gets his first shot. They are ready for dinner by 6, so get fed then. It’s too early though for his evening shot. I’ve been giving him a half can of food at 9 when I give him his second injection. How do you schedule meals? Their meals can’t be 12 hours apart, but they have to have some food with their insulin, right? If I don’t, he gets the zoomies. A few more bites of food after injection and he settles down.

Are you feeding him during the day with snacks? I would recommend you give a couple of snacks during the 6 hours after the dose of insulin at 9 am. A snack is a teaspoon or two of normal low carb food.
I would also leave some food out for him overnight.

You can still give your cats the meal at 6 pm. Just give Milo a snack at 6 pm and then the main meal at 9 pm.

Thank you! That makes sense! I’ll try that.
