Never, ever use dry ice. I did have insulin shipped to me and she was told by a nurse and postal worker that dry ice would work well. Insulin arrived here frozen and was useless to use.

Excellent,Venita, but please put this caveat in your document....NO DRY ICE.

You can purchase small Ice Substitute packs at WalMart (in the sporting goods dept).
Coleman Chillers is one brand.

I sometimes make my own ice-packs. Put some water into a 1 quart zip-lock bag.
Express as much air out as possible, seal the edge. You can fold it over also to make the
shape you want. Then put in a flat tray in the freezer until frozen.

After it is frozen, put the whole thing into one of those vacuum pack envelopes such as Food Saver.

You can even seal the pens/vials into a small Food Saver pouch (do not suck the air out--could crush the item).
Seal the whole protected pen/vial inside the Food Saver pouch. Keeps any stray water getting to the insulin
packaging
