I had been giving my cat injections on the back of the neck. He got a hot spot on the back of his neck recently so I had to try other spots for the injection. Well, this is not going well. When I get it right, he is having better numbers than ever but most of the time I either make him cry or give a fur shot. He doesn’t have a lot of skin to tent. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to give a shot in other areas besides the back of neck?

I've been giving injections in my cats side ever since I did a Fur shot 18 months ago. I do not tent his skin. I part his fur so I see the skin & inject at an angle just under his skin.
Lots of places each day to inject so he never gets sore . He doesn't even seem to notice his shots! ( Best part, I've never done a fur shot again! :) ,because I don't tent his skin)

Typically we are instructed to give the shot into the scruff at the back of the neck area which is not optimal because there isn't great blood flow in the scruff which can result in the insulin not being absorbed, or working as well as it should. The reason our vets teach us to inject in the scruff is because they won't get bitten if they give shots there.

Rotating where insulin shots are given is important to help prevent scar tissue from developing.
