Injection problem?

I'm getting worried that I'm not giving injections to my cat correctly. I just can never seem to find the loose skin folds that everyone says are there (making a "tent" is impossible), and so I have to pick up what little skin I can and then try to clear away her thick fur with my thumb (she's just a shorthair, but has a dense undercoat, I can NEVER see her skin no matter how hard I try to clear it off). Since I switched to her side instead of her neck (she hates when I do the scruff of the neck), she is no longer jerking or making noise, but I'm also just not sure I'm getting the needle in properly. I check with my finger for any dampness in the fur to make sure I didn't do a fur shot, and so far I don't feel any, and I've confirmed the plunger has been pressed, but... I just never feel the skin resistance that I felt when I practice injected her at the vet's office.

I was having the same problem with my cat when I started. I had the vet shave an area so I could see Colin's skin clearly. It helped a lot! Now I know exactly how it feels and have no trouble even with his thick fur.

I pull up a fold of the skin for Leo. And I poke right into it quickly. But I've done fur shots too.
