Would really appreciate if someone with an experienced eye could take a look and weigh in. I'm having a rough time with Jackie's testing last couple of days. He really doesn't like me messing with the right ear and it seems drier. When I DO try to test there, it doesn't give me blood very easily and my poor boy's left ear must be getting quite sore. I'm having to poke him multiple times for a sample and he ALWAYS acts like he feels it. Wasn't having these problems before. And tomorrow is back to work day after having taken 2 weeks off to work on this. Can anyone think of something that might help? I'm feeling a little frustrated.

Get some Neosporin ointment with pain relief or generic. Apply a dab before testing.

Make sure ear is nice and warm.

If necessary, aim for the vein directly; it may bleed profusely, so be prepared to blot.

Blot firmly after testing to reduce scabbing and bruising.

We test, shoot, then feed, all within about 15 minutes.

I use a folded tissue to brace the ear and protect my finger from getting stabbed (been there, done that!)

Looks like Jackie is bouncing from the 88 on 4/30 bounces can take up to 6 cycles to clear so I would expect that to happen in the next cycle or two...

Some people put Neosporin on the ears before bed too so that they heal up over night - 'slather it on' is the expression I've heard used. One member that tried the generic recently had trouble with it and all the cats hair came off its ears, it was fine with the Neosporin - probably an unusual reaction but I thought worth mentioning.

Are you giving low carb treats with each test? If not please do, most kitties then come to associate testing with treats and don't mind it so much, some come to love it - it's true I promise :)

With your spreadsheet, it will paint a clearer picture for us if, when you shoot late, instead of putting a direction to see the note you add, for example, @+13 in the cell with the PS number. When it's done like that it's much easier for us to read the spreadsheet.

:bighug: It is all very frustrating when you're just starting but it will get easier as you both adjust :bighug:

I would very much like to try a dose adjustment this weekend, but am not sure I have enough data yet. Can you make suggestions about that? I have looked at some others SS's so as to get a better idea how to input additional info. How do you enter in between test time along with the test # without losing the color in the cell, etc? Some + numbers, I still don't have. Do I need these before making any changes to dose? I still don't see nadirs, efc. Does anyone else?

You will lose the colour when you enter other data in the cell but then you can manually fill with the appropriate colour. There's a symbol that looks like a paint tin being poured in the menu bar across the top of the spreadsheet. Click the little arrow on that button and the colour selection will drop down then you click on the colour that you want and voila!

I don't know what your situation is but if it's possible to get at least one extra get during each cycle as well as your PreShot tests that would be great. For example without a test last night we don't know whether Jackie broke his bounce last night, hit the greens and then started bouncing again today. Dosing adjustments with lantus are made based on the low points of the cycle, even though you won't always be able to get that the test that shows the lowest point of the cycle with an additional test in the cycle somewhere we'll have some idea of what he was doing. I would be a bit hesitant to increase right now on the basis of that 88 and then not knowing what happened last night. If he was green like that again you won't want to increase just yet.
