Inflammatory bowel food options - cat w/out diabetes

Given my 14 yo Maine Coon mix rescue neutered male (not diabetic) Chester throws up several times a week (small amounts of undigested whole dry food) but otherwise is in good health and good weight of 14 lbs.. my vet suggests that he may have inflammatory bowel. He said rather than do a biopsy of his intestine to diagnose that I should try switching the food that has alternative sources of protein (i.e., instead of fish and chicken protein - lamb or rabbit protein).

I feed my seven cats BFF fish or chicken or Friskes wet 3 times a day for a majority of their calories and a little Costco Nature's Domain dry food. Chester prefers dry food and I am working on getting him to eat more wet food by limiting the amount of dry food available.

Suggestions on food choices both dry and wet food?

A lot of people think raw is the way to go for IBD. However, for many cats there is a learning curve to get them to eat raw even if they like canned.

My cat did well on Natural Balance- venison and green pea, since your cat is not diabetic this should be all right to eat. I could not get my cat to eat raw but I have also heard this is good for IBD.

A long time ago, I lived with a couple cats, plus my cat who all had chronic colitis (bloody stools, diarrhea, occational vomiting). At the time, we were feeding grocery-store dry foods (mostly purina). I would switch grocery store brands, but really most of these are made at all the same companies. Likely, with dry food (if there isn't an protein allergy), it's the aflotoxins and mold in the contaminated, poor quality grains that they use. Switching to grain free (from natrual pets store) eliminated the colitis completely.

Also, about 2 years ago, I tried to switch to all wet, and ran out one day, and picked up a few cans friskies wet from the grocery store instead of a high quality food, just to tide them over. Both cats ended up with salmonella and almost died.
