Increase dose?

Can someone please look at our spreadsheet and tell me if we need to increase his ProZinc to 0.75u or should we hold at 0.5u and run a curve this weekend?

My vet is recommending we increase to get his numbers lower. We are very new to all this and I wasn’t getting much response anymore on my previous thread.

It’s always good to not let the threads get too long as people think the questions have been answered. Also always change the subject line to current situation.
It does look as if Loki needs an increase in dose, but I am not a Prozinc user so hopefully Janet or Elizabeth will come along soon.
One thing I would do is make sure you get at least one test in during every PM cycle to make sure Loki is not dropping low, as cats often do at night.
Getting into the habit of getting a before bed test in is good. If that test is lower than the preshot, I would suggest setting the alarm and getting up later to test and check it hasn’t dropped too low. some of those black BG could have been from dropping lower at night.

Yes let’s try 0.75.

when he went hypo on 1 u, are you sure he only got one? Could someone else have also shot him? Or could you have accidentally gone to the 5 or ten line?

I am positive as I gave the shot and no one else knew how at that point in my house. I think that he was already all over the place because he wasn’t eating much for a few days. It was his very first dose of insulin ever.

I know he went low at 1 in the past, but i do feel he needs to go to 1 unit now. we don't want him stuck in these high numbers. if that makes you nervous, do 0.75 for a few days first.

We were planning to do a curve this weekend, should we skip that? Is it ok to change the dose now?

Why would changing the dose Interfere with a curve? I would increase now, yes. A curve this weekend sounds like a plan.
I thought I read that you want to hold a dose for 7 days and run a curve then decide whether the dose needs to be adjusted. I’m new to all this and I’ve read so much my head is spinning. We increased this morning to 0.75u so we can monitor during the day. Plan to get at least 2 readings before the PM shot.

You can do a curve at any time; all a curve is is a day of extra poking and more data than usual. You will actually have better data by doing spot-checks instead of the occasional curve, if your schedule will allow. If you can get in 2 or more tests (on top of pre-shots) every day you will be able to understand Loki's pattern better. :) One way to do this, if you'd like a rough guide, is to test at +2, +4, +6 one day, and +1, +3, +5 the next. This will help you to see what a typical Loki day is like, when he rises and falls, etc. :)
