Hi all, just curious, should "in use" Lantus be stored in fridge??? When I asked the Vet I work with the reply was Yes, when asked Putter's personal Vet she said no, when I asked the pharmarcy, the reply was no, asked the company who makes Lantus, the answer was no, the rx info in pkg was not to keep "in use" Lantus in fridge just the unopened ones, thennnnn....on I read on this website to store the "in use" and unopened pens in the fridge. Help please. All my paperwork says not to store the in use pen in fridge, I am so confused.
Putter has been on Lantus for a few months with good success. Sorry I forgot I am supposed to put his amps, pmps and units in the subject line, newbie.

Hi the answer to that question is that you should, to have it last as long as possible. Humans take large enough doses that they probably use it up in 28 days. Why 28 days? I read on this board that the manufacturer never tested longer so that's all they recommend. I have read that folks have kept using for around 6 mos. for their cats. You just want to check your solution for floaties. The stickey is good and explains everything. My first pen was opened 9/21 and I just switched to a new pen. Hope that helps.

I just ran out of insulin in my first cartridge, yep I used it all up and it was good to the last drop. I store in the fridge. I had to look at the instructions for the opti-clik to figure out how to put in the new cartridge. The instructions say do not store the PEN in the fridge as "Refrigerating the reusable Pen Body may damage the electronic function of the pen." And since kitty users do not use the electronic function of the pen, it is ok for us to store in the fridge. So I think that's why all the other instructions also say do not store in use Lantus in the fridge.

Welcome to you and Putter! We keep track of our BG numbers on a spreadsheet ~and we attach the SS in a link to our signature. Here are instructions form the Tech Forum on how to go about setting up your SS and attaching it.

We are very into our data here and by linking the SS, we can all click on it and view his numbers.

We do open a new condo (thread) each day and shot in the header, Date, Kitty's Name, AMPS:_______ and update the header with new BG readings ie: +2=---+4=---etc. as you will see in other condos.

What food are you feeding Putter and what is the feeding schedule?
There is a link explaining how to make up a Profile for your signature too: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopi ... =6&t=17766
There are starred stickies at the top of the page containing important information Maybe start with the one entitled "New to the Group" : http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopi ... =9&t=18139

In this sticky, there is a section on Hypos and the Hypo Tool kit. Please have high carb canned foods with gravy on hand as well as karo syrup. We use the gravy alone to bring up any low numbers that we might get....
If you record a low number, please post and ask for assistance, okay? If you have any questions after reading the stickies, please come back and post the questions in this condo. We are so happy that you are here and look forward to seeing your SS and seeing Putter's numbers!
