Kitty hasn't been diabetic or gotten insulin in years, but I checked her BG earlier today, and it was 50 before she ate. I checked again around 2-3 hours after she ate, and it was 61. I fed her several times this afternoon, and I just checked it again before I fed her, and it was 45. I gave her 1ml maple syrup and a lot of food. I called the after hours vet, and she said that since she's not showing any signs of hypoglycemia, I shouldn't be too concerned. She said to continue giving 1ml syrup and lots of food until my vet opens up again on Tuesday.

What is going on? I didn't know cats could just have hypoglycemia. Should I be doing anything else? I'm way out of practice with everything related to diabetes, so I'm pretty anxious right now. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If she hasn't had insulin, there's no danger

My civvies blood glucose routinely runs in the low 40's ....and occasionally the high 30's

Not unless they have an underlying condition like cancer

But I wouldn't worry about that....it's totally normal for a non-diabetic cat's BG to be in the 40's
