In remission but BG is higher when fasting

Today I was finally able to confirm that tuna's blood glucose is actually higher when he doesn't eat. It was just by chance that he needed to poop right at AMBG (100) so he really didn't want to eat until he pooped. So I left the room let him poop and when I came back he wanted to eat again perfect. I let him eat real good and about 45 minutes after his AMBG test I got his after food test of 78. Can anyone explain this phenomenon? I always thought it was the opposite, that BG gets lower when fasting

Makes perfect sense.
Food activates the pancreas to release insulin. That's why it's important to have a steady BG, both diabetics and not. Fast carbs makes the BG spike fast, BUT following that is a big drop. Don't know if it makes sense. But I thought the same thing until I became a member in a human diabetes group, and learned a few things.

That makes sense because he's on low carb food! Thank you!

Eating stimulates the pancreas to release insulin which will bring down the BG.
Are you giving Tuna regular snacks throughout the day and night?.
If you give him a snack at around +9 at night, that should bring down the AMPG. If you don’t have a timed feeder, I would look at buying one…they are invaluable.

I would break that up a bit more and make it three snacks each cycle instead of 2 if that’s is doable for you. Try and spread the snacks out over the cycle so he doesn’t have too long without any food in his tummy for the insulin to work on.

I do leave his wet food out and he eats it slowly throughout his day. I've never seen his bowl completely empty actually, and each meal is a full can of the FF LC. I also have a side dish that I incrementally put a few pieces of the LC Dr Elsey's kibble. I figured I'd rather him eat that than not eat and raise his BG if he's feeling sassy about the wet food. He stays in a different room from the other cats right now if I'm not home to monitor, that's how he always has access to his food. He's essentially free feeding. Do you think that's all ok?

yes that’s fine.

Well my alarm didn't go off to feed tuna at 8am. When I woke up at 11:30 his BG was 113. Very aggravating. Tuna has taken on my sleep schedule unlike normal cats. I wonder if his blood glucose is getting so high in the mornings because I'm not up reminding him to eat past 4:00 a.m. he just knocks out on my face and I wake up to him on my face everyday he doesn't move

Update: BG 85 1 hour after eating
