Pat suggested I start a new thread but I don't know how to add the past one. Imogen was 134 this morning and then 220 at +4 it was suggested she may be bouncing. I have no idea what that is and how to deal with it. (i'm a newbie) any advice would be helpful.

Hi Cynthia!
Very nice AMPS for Imogen this morning. A "bounce" is a series of higher numbers after a low. When a kitty is not used to the lower numbers, once they get down there, the Liver produces hormones to raise the BGs. So, your AMPS was a low blue and now Imogen is up to a yellow. Sometimes, they go as high as pink or red in response to the lows. It is an annoying reaction the the better numbers...something that we just have to bear up under.

You do not have any data from last night so we are assuming you did not do your before bed time check. Is that correct?
We do not know where Imogen went last night. Possibly, she was lower before you tested for AMPS. We ask that a before bed time check be done each and every night. Is that doable for you?

Here is the link to yesterday's condo. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26004
We go to our previous condo and highlight the HTTP address and copy it. Then, when we start a new post in the morning, we post the link to our first message. That way, people van just click and easily see what transpired the previous day.

Have you read the stickie "New to the Group" at the top of the page? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18139
That contains important information about doing curves and also, you could print out the HYPO TOOLBOX information too. Do you have HC canned food with GRAVY on hand? Karo syrup?
These will be important if Imogen goes low and you need to give her something High Carb to bring her numbers up....very important.... Do you have any questions? You may post any questions here in this condo. One condo per kitty per day.... You are also welcome to visit other people's condos to see what is going on with their kitties and to just say hello...Glad to see you this morning!

Thanks Pat!! So I guess I just ride out the bounce and see what happens. Imogen is quite sleepy today but I can't tell if it's the weather or something else as her numbers are ok. She is easily rousable, she hears the word "brush" and pops right up as she knows a nice brushing is coming! (her favorite thing in the world). I have a kit of syrup and gravy foods, which I bought on the first day of her diagnosis! I will do night checks tonight as God knows I am up checking on her breathing every few hours anyway. Poor thing has me shaking her awake every few hours! I have become a nut!
Pat, you are like a fairy God mother for Imogen and myself. Thank you.

 My Raja likes her brushing too...it is part of our daily routine. she hears me making the bed, and poof...she appears!
How is her coughing lately? Are you giving anything to her for that?

Her coughing has actually improved tremendously in the last 6 months. She has been dealing with this for 10yrs and we have been to every Vet in the city to see what it could be. She has had every test known to man and still no one knows what it is. She never throws up or has hair balls so some attribute it to this. Her nose is quite pushed in and everyone comes to the conclusion that it has something to do with this as it makes her snore like a trucker. She has to be put in another room if we are watching tv as we can't hear it over her! We moved from a brownstone to a high rise and this may have something to do with the improvement as well. Her has been on a diet and this may be helping the cough as well. I never thought that would be the least of our problems!

Don't panic over a bounce! Punk's been on the juice for 2 years and still gets bouncey after a low number. A bounce is just the body's built-in response to low blood sugar. Since the liver is now comfy with the higher BG levels, when it starts to experience the lower, more normal range, it panics and sends out a ton of sugars to counter-act the low BGs....it's a safety mechanism and means the liver is doing its job. Once the liver re-learns to like the normal BG range, the "bounces" won't be so severe. Some kitties bounce higher than others and more quickly, sometimes a bounce can last up to 72 hours, so don't panic if you don't see a quick response to the insulin. It takes a little time to see how each cat responds.

But if you can, try to get some pm spot checks.

I posted in old codno too. i mean.....condo  I don't know which one we're sticking with.

the higher numbers could also be due to the dose hopping you've been doing. I see in your spreadsheet that you are going to try to stick to 2 units for a while, and I think that's a great idea. Hold it for a few days and see where the numbers go. It's easier to make smart adjustments once we have a good solid baseline to work with.

I found myself half waking and nudging Kazi in the middle of the night to make sure she was okay for the first 6 weeks or so after dx. Glad to see I wasn't the only nut doing that!

I am glad to see you sticking with 2 units for awhile. Lantus likes consistency. Dose hopping based on amps and pmps really doesn't work for this insulin. I bet you start to see more stable numbers after a few days of a steady dose.
