Last night I read about Abbott relion test strips being recalled. As I was driving to work I realized that Abbott also makes Freestyle and Freestyle lite meters and test strips. I use this and my cat's mumbers had been running low for the past two or three weeks. I am having trouble getting the link to the Abbott web site from my Blackberry. To be safe, I am going to buy strips for one of my extra meters to compare numbers. This is one situation in which it is a good idea to have a backup meter. If any other readers can get more info. I would appreciate it.

Iam going to test Nomad on both meters tonight. If the Freestyle is significantly lower I will post again and notify Abbott.

Thank you Lisa.I would encourage all Freestyle user to continue to moniter this situation though since recalls are often expanded. Anyone reading this should also read the announcement about abbott test strips being recalled in case Freestyle is added.

Igot test strips for a True Result meter I also had and did a comparison to my freestyle lite. The true result gave me a BG of 101 and the Freestyle was 112. I didn't completely trust my freestyle strips since they are also made by Abbott. This is probably a good example of how having a back up meter is benefical. That way if you get unusual numbers you can real out a meter malfunction.

Over the past three weeks my cat's numbers have gone down into the 70 to 120 range on most days. When I read about the Abbott test strips causing abnormally low readings, I just wanted to make sure my numbers were the "real thing". This is probably the best X-mas gift I could get!!!

I am still going to check the Abbott list daily and double check my numbers on both meters a few times a week.

Everyone have a good X-mas and may your kitties have visions of catnip mousies dancing in their heads!
