Rusty's BG levels getting lower and more consistent. BIG changes made in diet and regular monitoring, thanks to you all. However, Rusty had a "relapse"/ exasperation of vesibular disease/ symptoms of a year ago. Since then, he has not been able to groom himself very well and attempts by me have been VERY stressful. I've had to cancel under anesthesia grooming twice because of his unsteadiness.
I've read that Vestibular disease symptoms do not usually return so I'm concerned. Also how could it effect diabetes management? Thank you for any insight advice

Sorry, no experience with it here either. But plenty of experience with grooming.

I give Whispy a "lion cut" every spring because he is just too old/fat/lazy(?) to take care of his "undercarriage". We bought a pet-specific battery operated Wahl clipper (expensive, but I had a gift card so I splurged). It claims to be a little bit quieter, and I think that it is compared to the Wahl that I use to cut my husband's hair. And being battery operated, I basically follow Whispy around the house and just cut a few swipes at a time. He looks like he was in a terrible weed-whacker incident for a week or so, but usually we can eventually get the job done. ;) The very first time after we adopted him, we scheduled the grooming at the vet (NOT under anesthesia, just with their groomer), but she let me hold him while she did the cut. It was fairly stressful for him, so that is when I bought the clippers so that I could do it over the course of a week or so. It still might not be possible for you to do, but just wanted to share my experience.

Best of luck to you both in your journey,
Sandi.

Thx, how is it making your own food? Id love to try.

It's quite simple, but I takes a few hours because I usually prepare batches to last for 3-4 weeks that I freeze and I'm feeding 4 so is a lot but still is done once every 3-4 weeks only and it has been wonderful for all of my kitties, so I pretty much schedule one saturday afternoon when I go to the supermarket get the chicken go back home put it in the oven and start mixing supplements while the meat gets cooked ( I know they say almost raw is better but down here the actual freshness is not very reliable and the organic ones are already frozen so not a good option for me) then I debone it and grind everything, I did bought a meat grinder quite cheap since I'm not using bones (because CKD) so it didn't had to be a very sophisticated or big one, mix with the supplements and put it in small ( about one day amount) containers and into the freezer. Quite simple actually just a little time consuming.

I also give my 3 hymies a "lion cut" during spring-summer time because it can get pretty warm down here and vet recommended it , not a very stylish one either since like Sandi I ended up trimming them myself because doing it at the vet was to stressful so I do it any way I can, but they are cool and happy (probably more than in winter since it means no brushing which they hate ) and that's what matters.

You & Sandy have convinced me to try gently and over time to try doing it myself.Just hink it has to be less dangerous than putting him under
