IBD help for non-diabetic cat

Hi everyone,

I had mentioned my problems with a non-diabetic cat (Mylie) in another thread, but thought I'd start a new thread in the hopes that someone with a lot of IBD experience might see it and help.

Mylie has had suspected IBD for years now (she's 16). They haven't examined tissue samples of her intestinal lining because I haven't wanted to put her under, but she's had many tests done over the years on her blood, urine and poop.

In roughly the past 6 months, things have gotten worse. She's managed to maintain her weight for the last few months, but she lost some before that. She's always been small, but now she's all bones. She has chronic diarrhea. For example, she had diarrhea twice in a row at 11pm last night, twice in a row at 4:30am, and then again at 6:30am. That's typical. She's very gassy and it's kind of...explosive. The majority of this is done outside of the litterbox, which I've just come to accept. She now sometimes will pee outside of the litterbox. She had a bladder infection a while ago and was on baytril. We recently gave her a round of baytril again in case she had another bladder infection (and also because of a slightly infected cyst that she had.) But the baytril is done and she peed outside the box again this morning.

We tried prednisolone. After being on it for almost a week, she stopped eating. Once I got her eating again, we tried it again at a lower dose. It didn't help. Lately her poop has sometimes been very dark. Thinking it may be an ulcer, the vet put her on famotidine.

I've tried fortiflora - she wouldn't touch her food. I have been sprinkling an enzyme supplement on her food, but it hasn't helped.

She's a very picky eater, so I haven't had any luck trying her on a limited ingredient diet or trying her on a novel protein. She currently eats different flavours of FF, as well as some dry (don't worry - my diabetic cat doesn't get any of the dry.)

I just want her to be comfortable (and yes, I would love to not be cleaning cat diarrhea 8+ times a day, but that's secondary.) I know she can't be feeling too great before and during a diarrhea episode. The rest of the time I think she's OK - she slaps around the other cats, curls up for naps, wanders about the house. But what do I know - maybe she has constant stomach pain. Am I being unkind, keeping her around like this? I just feel like there must be SOMETHING.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Thanks Julia. In that site they talk about Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Frozen Diet - I called around and found a place that has them, so I'll give that a try, keeping her away from all other food.
