Hi all, im a new member. My cat had diabetes and went into remission last year. He developed severe ibd issues 3 months ago. Prednesolone caused a relapse of diabetes. He is very sick and almost 17. Chronic diarrhea and it may be lymphoma. My vet has agreed budesonide would be preferable but the problem is that I live in ireland amd am unable to get compounded medication for cats here. It's so frustrating. They are offering me human budesonide for inhalor. They think it might be safe for gandhi to take orally. Sounds like I could be playing with fire. Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ...

Thank you Bron and Sheba. I got locked out of my Suze f account to had to make a new one.

Thank you Wendy and Neko. My vet wants me to give the inhaler liquid to my cat orally. I have been hesitant. We can only get 3m pills here. My cat needs 1mg per day. Can I break the 3mg to give him.

I didn't get boullardi. Thank you for links.

Wendy and Neko. Are you based in the USA? I'm trying to find someone in the UK that might be able to help me. I looked at the links. Thanks so much. Might start with the probiotic. My cat is hiding on me a lot as he is tired of me giving him injections and occasionally supplements. HE is eating very little. I worry that I will lose him if I can't get him the medication he needs. I think it is pills available in ireland. I don't know to be honest. I will talk to my vet tomorrow. Its very frustrating not being able to get the treatment I need in this country.. Thanks again for your guidance.

I am in Canada. The pills I got were a bit large. I used a pill cutter (available at most pharmacies/chemists) and split the pill. There were rather crumbly though. you should be able to give a 0.75 mg dose fairly easily by cutting into quarters.

By googling vet compounding pharmacy UK, I found this link https://specialist-pharmacy.com/prescribers/veterinary/

Thanks so much Wendy and Neko. Might be best to go with the quarters of the pill. Do you think the pills cut up would be as effective?

Thanks so much for doing some research for me.
Unfortunately, ireland is not in the UK. Ireland is part of the European Union. UK is a completely different country, although we are neighbours. I am in the south of ireland. The north of Ireland is connected to the UK. I phoned a few vets there ( 2 hours away from me) They don't seem to use the compounding pharmacy in London. Also, I don't think I can take my cat there. He has lost more than 1/3 of his body weight. He may have lymphoma. He is a terrible traveller and I couldn't put him through that when he is so sick.

You can try contacting them and see if they'll ship to Republic of Ireland. And talk to your vet to see if they would send a prescription there. We have a number of US memebers who got prescriptions for insulin from their vets in the US send it to a pharmacy in Canada, who fulfilled the order and sent it back.

The compounding pharmacy I used for budesonide was a regular compounding pharmacy for people, but did a side business in compounding. Check out the services of compounding pharmacies in Ireland. Budesonide is also a people medication.

Hi Wendy and Neko. Thanks so much for getting back to me. So I could give my cat the compounded liquid version of the drug for humans? Is that safe? I know there are lots of other ingredients in it for humans like sugars. I was afraid it may not be safe as cats are so sensitive and are allergic to many products.

This should be a conversation between your vet and the compounder. They have a version safe for diabetic humans.
