I think we're back, again.

Raja stated throwing up again like she did back in august but since I was more observant I caught it before it got as bad as last time.

We have an appointment sat with the vet but I've been giving her meds to stop the vomiting and make her hungry.

I suspect she needs to go back on insulin though.

Last night her bg was 94 but today it was 234. Now she has been eating off and on since i got home so I suspect that's why her bg is high but can it be that high simply from eating can it?

Another question. They gave me sub q fluids with vitamins added back on aug 11th. I used it twice on her and then didn't need it. Is it still ok? It's been stored in my bedroom hanging on a hanger since unused it last and it's sill clear it's not cloudy.

It could be from food, but you can check if her pancreas is fighting the rise if you wait a hour and check her again maybe?

Not sure on the fluids. Probably okay, but the supplements may not still be useful. I don't know the shelf life of lactated ringers, hopefully someone who had some leftover and then used them is online... I always used mine up before they hung around (pun not intended) for long.

She just ate some more so testing her isn't going to show me a good number. I don't want to take food up because she's finally eating so I'll check her tomorrow.

I forgot to ask the vet about lactic ringer today and searching online really didn't help.

I googled it too....
One site says they expire within a week, and another says "years". One said "6 months", but none of the sites were "vet" type of sites. One week makes no sense to me, since I got bags with 1000ml in them and gave Bob some twice a week, so the bag lasted him longer than a month... there's no "exp date" on the bag? Mine didn't have one on it.
Carl

It think it said April of 2012. If it was pills I know it would be ok to give her but fluids I'm just not sure. I don't see how it could become unsterile but since I have no medical background I just don't know. I know i used one bag longer than a week but I have no clue if 3 months later its still ok.

Hi Heather, I dont have any answers for you but wanted you to know you and Raja are in my prayers. So sorry you two are going through this.

188 is better than 234.
And if the exp date is next April, I think the fluids should be okay too.
Carl

Oh yes, I was relieved by the 188 I'm just not sure what it means.

I don't want to hold off on giving her insulin for very long if she has relapsed and I certainly don't want to give it to her if she hasn't.

UGH Saturday 9am can't come fast enough

Thanks Jeanne, I think Raja enjoys worrying me.

Hi Heather! nice to see ya, but sorry to hear that Raja isn't feeling well. I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe her bg's may be higher since she isn't feeling well. I know that Spot's go sometimes much higher than usual if he isn't up to par. If she has a tummy bug, that may be why she is throwing up. Spot also had a bout of vomiting a few weeks ago, lasted about two days. He didn't eat much, but he did eat...chicken, bonito flakes, some watered down food, so I was able to administer insulin.

If it was me, I'd keep checking bg's for a few more days to see what she does. That gives you enough of time to observe everything....vomiting, eating, bg's....unless of course, the vomiting gets worse and she won't eat. Then hop to the vettie as soon as possible....always an emergency situation and they should take you over someone who's kids are just getting their shots or other things that don't require immediate medical attention.

Hugs to you both...

Hei Raja.....you needz to feel bedder soon. Iz will comez ober and rubs your tummy if you wantz, and iz will call da KTSS team to come ober and feedz u some good chickenz soup too!.......lubs Spot

Her BG was back up tonight at 208 and that's without eating at least for an hour....not sure if she ate before I got home but I doubt it

I did go ahead and give her fluids, again I don't see why it would be bad and I'm hoping it's ok.

Heather,
If you see this soon.....check her again. I think you might have done this the last time she climbed up a little?

Test her before mealtime, then feed her. Check in 60-90 minutes to see if it is higher. It should be from eating. Then give it another 60-90 minutes and see if she drops any. If so, good news, she's producing her own insulin. See how low she makes herself go. Worst case, you may have to supplement her just a tiny bit until she gets over what else is bothering her.

Carl

Of course I went to bed before I saw your post. I can do that tonight though.

She was at 153 this morning and I think that's with eating some. The fluids helped a lot she's a lot more active and actually kept waking me up last night to pet her.
