He has had need of very little insulin now since the beginning of sept and probably didnt need what I did give him but I did because I am a worried mom and thought he was playing possum again, turns out so far at least he wasnt playing possum. He has been in the normal range for ferrets (90-120) the majority of the time. Eating can bring him down 70-90 points so something is going on in there!
Just had to share that with the people who helped us get to this point.
His infection at the implant site seems to finally be going down a bit, he is eating well and full of fun when he isnt doing the senior ferrets specialty of sleeping!
Its his favorite time of year, pepper picking season, he does go out to survey his crops and pick his own peppers, comes running up the stairs and inside with them to put them in his safe place (my nightstand), I am so happy to still have him in my life, he is one in a million.

What a great photos and I love the description of Pippin picking peppers.

If he wants to go OTJ, then by all means we do an OTJ countdown. You might want to get a few spot checks, though, if you get a higher number like last night's PMPS, to see if that yellow comes down.

He does like to go up at the end of the day, always has, I feed him before he goes to bed around 9 pm and your right I should have checked on him later, my bad, I hate waking them all up, they think its time to start the day!
Ferrets all sleep in a big furry ball wrapped around and over each other, to wake one up is to wake up the whole crew LOL so unless I am really concerned I leave them be at night.
I am going into town to get more strips this morning but will check him before I go and see what food did to his numbers.

w00t! this is fantastic news, deb!!!
i agree with sienne. grab a spot check when you see a number out of the normal range to make sure he's bringing himself down.
this is so exciting! you have to be very, very pleased!
good luck!

Well, I think that we should give pippin what he wants!! an OTJ trial and pepper pickin season will certainly make a happy ferret!
This is happy news, Deb! Oh, and I love the pic, thanks for sharing!!!

I love that picture, so cute! What kind of pepper is that? We are pepper-lovers too, just like Pippin.

We had bought some lovely mini peppers at the store and they were so good we kept back some seeds from them and started them this spring, so they dont grow huge like normal peppers but are still sweet peppers, I cant imagine the look on Pippins face if we grew him hot peppers by mistake! :o
We thought they would be good Pippin pepper pickin pepper size......oh my goodness that is a mouthful, I will send a pepper to who ever can say that 10 times fast without messing up.

If you want to see Pippin in action I took a short clip of him today while he was playing on the futon, he really is such a little love.

You can see on his shoulders the infected spot from his implant and how unsteady his back feet are, I am hoping with his BG down a lot we will gradually see an improvement in his leg stability. He gets around fine, just looks like a drunk trying to run, ferrets never walk when they can run even if their legs dont work right, silly babies.

What an amazing job you've done! I hope his legs improve. Meanwhile, I will amuse myself by thinking, "How many peppers can a Pippin pick, if a Pippin will pick peppers..." :dizcat

What a cutie-pie that pepper picking Pippin is! I love his videos and they always make me smile.
Gosh, how awesome that Pippin wants to go OTJ. This is historic and I wish you the best of luck, Deb!

I Can't Wait Until The Party!!!!!

Knowing Pippin he will do an about face just when I am sure he is going to no longer want his insulin, OTJ isnt the objective, I dont even know if it is possible with ferrets. For now whats important is that he is in a safe range and healing from such high numbers for so long, all I want is for him to be safe and feeling good.
We will take it one day at a time, today was a good day, hopefully tomorrow will be as well.
His pmbg was 157, better than last night at this time.

THE STRONGEST ANTI-JINX POWER IS ENGAGED

Deb, I am so excited to see/hear this. Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled.
