I think I just shot an empty syringe

The insulin vial is getting low and I'm pretty sure the syringe was empty. GRRR! It felt odd when I pushed it in, like there was no resistance. I think the needle tip might have been just above the level of the insulin but I couldn't see it. I even looked for it. Rats! What I do now? I will post this in the main health forum too.
