Hi all!!

So my sugar kitty Sonny is fine...numbers always good, 1.5 units 2x a day. He gets fed at 5am, 10:15am (shot), 5pm, 10:15pm (shot) and 1:30 am (my hubby feeds before he comes to bed...he is a night owl) Problem is Sonny meows ALL nite! Not a hyperthyroid problem, he has been checked for that. It is strictly behavioral!! He gets playtime usually before his 10pm meal and runs around like crazy! Any tips to TRY and curb this behavior....it has been ongoing for quite some time. I need sleep!! Lol....thanks all

I definately would if my husband agreed!! Also, he is such a mommas boy that i think it would do more harm then good. I can try playing after eating though! Thank you!

Which insulin is Sonny on? (Is it Vetsulin again?) It would be helpful if you were to make a signature for your posts (just go up to where your avatar name appears in the blue bar at upper right and click on "Signature" in the box that appears, then it's fairly self-explanatory from there).

About the running around & meowing all night ... is Sonny neutered? And is it possible there are any feral cats roaming around outside your place at night? (Just wondering, because if Sonny can detect their presence, that might have something to do with it ...)

Definitely hear you on the lack o' sleep ... That's a common complaint here at FDMB!;)

Yes. Sonny has always been on vetsulin and does fine. 7 yr old neutered male. I live in an apt in NYC so no feral cats that he could see or smell

So he's just an active, bouncy boy who likes to make a lot of racket when you're trying to sleep. (Hmmm ... earplugs for you, maybe?)

We put our cats "to bed" at night. My civvie is the reason we started doing it - we don't allow the cats in our bedroom at night, so he would cry and paw at our door, sometimes up to eight times a night. My DH would sleep through it, but I'm a light sleeper, so I was getting NO sleep. We tried a lot of things - making sure he was fed and had a clean litter box before we went to bed, playing with him at different times during the day, giving him lots of attention and cuddles, making sure he had toys to play with - none of it helped. I tried spraying him with water if he started scratching at the door, but he'd just groom himself and be right back at it. I tried completely ignoring him, hoping that if he got no response, he'd give up, but no dice there either. Finally, before I lost my mind, we decided that we needed to keep him away from the door. Our living room has french doors, so we started closing him up in there at night with his food, litter and toys - he has plenty of room to run around if he wants, and plenty of soft surfaces to sleep on. It's worked out wonderfully - he's totally fine with it, and I get to sleep!

It also helps that I need white noise to sleep - I have a small fan on my bedside table. So between the closed door and the fan, I don't hear him if he's tearing around and making a racket.

Not sure if something like this would be an option for you as it depends on the setup of your apartment, but if all else fails, it's something to look at.
