I Lost my Sweet Leo over Christmas

Leo and I first found this board over 5 years ago when he was first diagnosed with FD with a BG of 555. One month later, he was off of insulin after changing his diet and testing his BG levels. This Christmas, Leo was 16-1/2 years old but became very ill from CRF. I tried to help him recover from dehydration for 3 weeks but his body could no longer fight it. My sweet boy held on through Christmas day for us but finally lost his battle the day after. I called the on-call vet who met my husband and I at his clinic on Sunday, his 4th euthanasia that day, and our sweet baby drifted off to sleep one last time. It broke my heart, and I'll never forget him and the 5 extra years together we had thanks to the generous members here, and one special member who helped persuade me to test Leo's BG's when I was still uncertain about it. Leo never had a relapse and regained his energy and mobility and his gentle joy for life. Thank you all so much for such a lovely gift. I never thought we would have another 5 years together after that scary diagnosis.

What a handsome boy! I can imagine how much he'll be missed. Good for you for giving him such a great, caring home. You have my utmost sympathies.

So sorry to hear about your loss! I am sure you are both grateful to have had a final Christmas together and that you were there with him through it all! He was extremely handsome and I am guessing a charmer as well! May he fly free, as he is forever in your heart!!

Dena, I'm so very, very sorry. I'm shocked to see the news and my heart hurts for you.

I lost Charlie just after Christmas a year ago and I was thinking of you and Leo this year, hoping that all was well. I had no idea.

Leo was a beautiful and special cat and I know your house isn't the same without his physical presence ... but I'm sure he's there with you in spirit. Fly free, Leo.

What a beautiful boy, and what a beautiful Mama for giving him such a wonderful life, and having the strength to do that one last thing it breaks all our hearts to do when it was time. He went to the bridge knowing he was loved every single day. Know that you'll be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks.

I'm so sorry to see this and know that your handsome guy had to leave you. Those pictures are fantastic - what a beautiful kitty.

You did a great job to keep him healthy for these years - what wonderful memories you must have of the love you shared. I'm hoping those memories will ease your grief now - it's so difficult to say goodbye - they leave such a hole in our hearts and lives.

Sending many comforting prayers - he is flying free and will feel no more pain, thanks to your love. I know that doesn't do much to help you now, but you gave him that freedom - the peaceful sleep given with love.
