I hurt her with the injection and am hating myself right now

I have been doing these shots for a year, and today, for the first time, she jumped a foot and let out a meow when I stuck her. I mean she REALLY jumped. I feel so bad, I don't know what I did wrong, I think maybe I was off a little bit from our normal spot, maybe up too high, I don't know. When she jumped the needle was still in her, I hope it didn't do any damage. I am not even sure the whole shot got in her, she wouldn't let me near her and touch her after that to check her fur.
She's a high spirited girl, I hope she will let me do the next shot without any trouble. As it is I have to give her freeze dried chicken during the injection or I would never be able to do it, she would never sit still for it.
I am just hating myself right now, you would think after a year I would get this right.

She doesn't hate you and you shouldn't hate yourself either. I'm willing to bet you didn't do any damage and the hurt was a momentary thing - like a pinch. Remember, none of is perfect.

Katiesmom,

It was an accident. You did not inject her in a spot to hurt her on purpose. You did nothing wrong. She still loves you, very, very much.

I bet if you go and scratch her ear or give her a belly rub or brush her for a few minutes, she'll have forgotten all about it. If you ask Katie if she is ok, she'll probably say "Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be with such a wonderful mommabean as you to take care of me?"

These things happen. I have been doing two cats for a year and a half and its happened a handful of times. Not sure why. They forgive you, I have also stepped on them a few times and they got over that too ;)

It is possible you hit a nerve, no harm done, though. That is something you can't predict when giving a shot. I did it once and Oliver tried to bite my hand, all the other times I shoot Oliver doesn't even flinch.
Don't forget, getting a pinch that will go away shortly is a whole lot better than getting sick from not getting the insulin. She still loves you and knows that you love her, too!

Your cat knows of all the times you have fed her, petted her and hugged her. That will far out weigh that one pinch. I have had to treat open abscesses in some strays I have taken in. Even these cats became loving members of the family.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I just needed to get it off my chest, was feeling like such a loser. Now I find myself "overthinking" now, afraid of making a mistake. But I did her next shot just fine, which I was nervous about. You are right, she probably forgives me better than I forgive myself. Thanks again for letting me have my pity party:)

It is so nice to see that we are allowed to make little mistakes. This helps calm me - as I start my second day of fostering a precious sugar cat. I look forward to learning for all of you (mishaps and all). I am sure I will make them too as I am learning. I guess the important thing is to be calm. I am working on not being so nervous when I test. Your post reminds me of what its like when I return from a week of vacation - they are only mad for a short while and then they very easily forget.
