Last night for merlin pm shot I accidentally push the insulin before I poke him. So I think he only got a little insulin in him. And this morning I poke him right. I hit skin . I think I felt his fur wet (my hands are very clammy) so it was hard to tell.

So my question is can the insulin come back out when you pull the syringe out?
I hope I make sense. I'm trying to explain this right. My nerves are getting to me bad.

His reading for this morning is staying in the high 400s. He is eating more then he has the past couple of days. So im not sure if that will affect his numbers

I have seen it recommended that if possible, one should keep the syringe inserted for a 10-second count off, to ensure no insulin manages to leak back out the hole where you inserted the syringe, when you pull it out. So apparently it can happen where a tiny bit of insulin can leak back out that hole if you pull out right away. However, I am sure it does not happen a lot or every time because for months, we were shooting insulin and we never held it in for 10 seconds. And we know Hendrick was getting the insulin properly -- his fur was not wet after shooting either.

But when we learned about holding it in for 10 seconds, we started doing it that way anyway, just to be on the safe side. Also as the doses got smaller and smaller I felt it could be more impactful.

A complete miss is what we call a fur shot. You've either not penetrated the skin or have gone right through the other side when tenting. I once saw a vet do it, like a squirt gun across the room so no one's perfect. In cases like that and what you did do not ever give insulin again right away to make up for what you think didn't get in.
Missing one dose is nothing compared to a double dose and a trip to emergency. Take a deep breath and start again tomorrow.

Do yourself a favor and shave a 2"x2" area on either the side chest or flank. Scruff is more difficult to shave without nicking.
This will let you see where needle is going in and you shouldn't get any more fur shots.

I do side of chest and have shaved an area about 2"x2" and makes it easier to see where needle goes in.
Here's a pic of my cat and here's the shaver I used, super easy shaved him when he was eating and he hardly noticed.

Most often, if you find a damp spot around the injection site, it's because there may have been a drop or two of insulin on the outside of the syringe. If you're calibrating your dose, often you end up with a bit of insulin on the needle. If you end up giving a fur shot or a portion of your shot is a fur shot, do NOT give more insulin. Even if you are convinced you squirted all of the insulin across the room, there may be no way to be absolutely certain if any insulin got into your cat. You don't want to inadvertently over dose your cat!
