I have been feeding Frisky's Pate for a long time and I was searching for something that I could feel better about feeding my little guys. I hate how the protein to fat ratio is never ideal with canned cat foods. I had bought a few different kinds of new canned cat food for them but I just wasn't really satisfied with any of it and today I finally decided on a good plan, I think. I'm going to stick with the Frisky's Pate but then I'm going to supplement 1/2 of their diet with the frozen raw food.
Have any of you tried Primal and if so what did you think about it?

China loved Primal until she didn't...now she's on Natures Variety

Primal is a good choice though...it's low carb

Good luck with the transition....some cats are really tough to get to accept raw, but the benefits are worth the effort

I never tried the Primal but I had my four kitties on the Nature's Variety Instinct raw for a while, and I loved it. So did the kitties! I finally had to give it up because, with four cats, it was becoming too expensive, but I have had a lot of trouble ever since, trying to find a food all the cats can eat (two of them have dietary issues) that I am happy with. I really miss the frozen raw, I felt like they were getting much better nutrition on it.

I've used the freeze tried primal raw (rehydrated) with success. It's not too bad P wise either (turkey). Some of the better pet stores have samples to try.

I just recently found this pet store that carries Primal, I've been there twice. The employees there are so nice it's unbelievable. I went back today to get a refund on the b.f.f. that I had bought.
They gave me a pretty big sample pack of four different flavors in the frozen primal plus gave me a 2.00 coupon for the bag that I was buying. When you buy 12 bags you get a bag for free. AND I found bonito flakes under the name "Kitty Caviar".

Tonight I gave them each a .5 oz serving mixed with canned food. They didn't take to it by itself and that's why I disguised it lol. I have fed them raw chicken breast before and they had no problem with it. I think they will come around to it in a few days.

You can also get bonito flakes at asian grocery stores. Just make sure there's no sugar added. It might be less expensive than the cat brand.

Oh yes, I know this already in fact I just posted that same thing in another thread last night. My local Asian market is pretty big but they don't have it, I searched the shelves over and over again just in case I had overlooked it. I did find it on Amazon as well for a pretty good price so I'm going to order from there next time.

These are 3.5oz for 6.50 vs the 1 oz for 5.50 from the pet store.

When I was transitioning my brood to raw food I started with commercial raw cat food-Primal and Rad Cat. My kitties loved Rad Cat but would only eat the freeze dried (which I would re-hydrate) Primal, they did not eat the frozen Primal. And yes when you buy 12 bags of Primal you get one free. Now I make my own raw food using Dr Lisa's recipe combined with the recipe on the Feline Nutrition.org website. So much less expensive when you have 9 kitties to feed! :)

I can imagine that with that many cats it would be better to make your own. I simply don't have the time to do it but with only 2 kids, I think I'll be okay.

I wish I had started mine on raw when they were younger:(
It is by far the most biologically appropriate diet..... Mine will eat the freeze dried as a treat-:cat:

Believe it or not my cat told me NV is better than Primal raw or at least tastes better.
At about 14 I introduced him to NV which he liked but later tried Primal, a mistake.
He just yelled at it for over an hour but then ate it. When the Primal was almost gone
I gave him NV & Primal at the same time. He ate the NV then the Primal. The next night
I did the same thing. He ate the NV but left the Primal but came back later and ate it.
I think he was telling me NV was a better cat food and not just tastes better since cats have
innate wisdom.

By NV do you mean Nature's Variety? I gave that to my cats for a while, they loved it, but it's too pricey for me to feed it to 4 cats! :(

My kittens love Primal. I also recently bought Small Batch and they love it too. I started with freeze dried rehydrated and then Primal small bites frozen as I could just use a few at a time. They are tiny pieces like dry. Now I buy nuggets.
