I am having issues with Monoject -What is your fav brand of syringe?

I had been using BD syringes but bought a box of monoject Ultra comfort mainly because they had the 12 mm needle plus 1/2 unit markings.

I am noticing air bubbles now and they are really tricky to get out.

On almost every draw the juice does not go all the way down the chute to reach the plunger top but instead leaves a gap there that is a real pain to get out.

Any advice? Is anyone else using Monoject with or without issues? I do have all the air pushed out of the syringe before inserting into the Lantus pen.

I mostly used ReliOn 31 gauge syringes with short needles and half unit markings for years. However, a lot of members prefer other brands.
My response will at least bump your post up the list so you'll get more replies.

The problem with Monojects is the "cone", which makes it very difficult to get an accurate dose (unless you have a "perfect" syringe, which is not likely!). See my diagram of a Monoject to get an idea of this problem:

I am in the process of finding a new brand of syringe because Terumo has stopped manufacture of their syringes (I switched to Terumo after years of frustration with Monoject).

Many people use BD syringes. I may order a box to try them out (before I run out of my stock of Terumos).

Good luck!

Ella,

Thanks for commenting and the link!

I do think it is easier to see thru the BD, the plastic just seems more "clear".. I think my search will continue for the BD long needle with 1/2 unit markings. Someone said last week they found them at their Walgreens, but my area walgreens does not have them.

So far none of my monojects have the needle coming down to the zero line.. That could be why I am having issues with bubbles.

I actually have not checked Amazon. Thanks.
There are so many different varieties and sizes of syringes when I go looking online my eyes just glaze over. I think some of them could have 1/2 unit markings and not state it. The walgreens brand doesnt state it on the box.

And what I am looking for is 3/10 cc, 1/2 or 12 mm needle, 1/2 unit markings and prefer smaller than 28 guage so 29-31 guage.

I know what you mean about the choice.

I just stuck to the box of 100 BD MicroFine 0.3 ml demi insulin syringes + 30G x 8mm needle.

The demi indicated the half marks. Not sure about any other brand sorry. These were quite good though. I assume you can get the same ones on the US.

I've always like the BDs, and prefer the 12 mm needles too, but my pharmacist has told me that BD stopped making the longer needles and Monoject was threatening to stop making them too. She could be wrong (it might just be what they are able to get in stock at the moment), but we might be out of luck with getting the 12 mm from those sources. I'm slowly getting used to using the 8 mm needles on the 3/10 cc BD syringes, which do have half unit markings.
