Hypurin Bovine Protamine Zinc Insulin UK

As Insuvet Protamine Zinc Insulin is no longer available in the UK I have asked my Vet to prescribe Hypurin Bovine Protamine Zinc Insulin which I understand is an equivalent Insulin. My Vet has refused to prescribe Hypurin, I was wondering if anyone in the UK has managed to persuade their Vet to prescribe Hypurin Protamine Zinc. If not I would be grateful to know what you are using instead. I am refusing to use Caninsulin which is my Vets only alternative suggestion. Mary

Interesting question, Mary. The recent newbies from the UK have all been on Caninsulin or Humulin. I have wondered whether vets are prescribing any of the longer lasting insulins, and if so, what.

This gives me the heebie jeebies. I used Insuvet PZI(beef) on all three of mine and it was wonderful.

Bushey was a poorly boy of skin and bone on Caninsulin when he came to me with a b/g of 35. I still had an old bottle of Katy's in the fridge so I tried him on it
After 6 weeks he had regained his lost weight and his b/g was down to the twenties.

I think that the thing to look for is that it should be BEEF insulin as I was told (by Robin I think) that beef insulin is only one atom different from cats natural insulin

Good luck
