Does anyone know if hyperthyroidism can bring a diabetic cat out of remission? We are still waiting for Free T-4 test results, but he doesn't seem to be responding to his 1.0u dose (he's been getting it for 4.5 days now). I know it takes some time for the shed to fill, but he responded so quickly last time, that I'm starting to wonder if he will ever respond this time.

He hasn't lost a bunch of weight, so the vet didn't suspect hyperthyroidism, but this regular t-4 test was at the high side of normal (2.5), so she decided to have a free t-4 done. His protein levels were elevated, his bg of course and lots of glucose in urine. Kidney functions were normal.

Any thoughts of experience with hyperthyrodism would be appreciated.

My tata was diagnosed hyper-t last year. She is currently on Methimazole and doing great with it. I haven't noticed a problem with that and her sugars. Of course it might be because her hyper-t has been stable for quite awhile now.

As far as it goes, we get the liquid med-fish flavored- and put it in a tsp of tuna, and she numms it right down. Beats fighting her with a syringe.

Good luck with the added dx, but you'll find out it's not too much of an issue.
