I recently read a post on the FD forum that said something like: "Hyperglycemia can exist without diabetes but diabetes can't exist without hyperglycemia." I am more confused than ever. How does hyperglycemia exist without diabetes? If anyone can clearly explain this to me I'd be grateful. I couldn't find the exact quote so please correct me if I quoted something incorrectly. Thanks everyone!

The word hyperglycemia is 3 parts
hyper = high, or elevated
glyc = glucose
emia = a condition of the blood

ie, elevated glucose in the blood.

The cause of the hyperglycemia determines if it is diabetes. Absent or inadequate production of insulin by beta cells is usually diabetes.
