Hyper T

I am about to go pick up Blaze from the vet - she's been hospitalized 3 days for DKA. I now find out she's hyper T also. I am thinking my treatment of choice will be Tapazole. Any comments, advice, experience? She's 12, almost 13.

I would opt for the radioactive iodine treatment after a course of Tapazole (the generic is less expensive). The course will see if the hyperthyroidism is masking a kidney problem.

I have had two cats treated with the iodine. They did great. I did not treat my Baily with the iodine since he was not in good shape. I used the generic Tapazole and it worked. My Lightening was diagnosed five months or s ago and he is also on Tapazole and doing great.

my late Spazzie was hyperT and took tapazole. hers was well regulated with the tapazole. i never really considered the I-131 treatment because she did fine on the tapazole and took pills as if they were treats. her levels were checked more often after the diagnosis, both to fine tune her tap dose and to make sure it didn't get out of control. we lost her to lymphoma a year and a half or so after her hyperT diagnosis
