Hungry - Need advice

I recently switched Brioche over to fancy feast, but he has been extremely hungry (this isn't a new symptom), I don't think his insulin is lasting long enough to cover the whole 12 hours (going to talk to the vet about switching), he's started peeing near/on my bed in the morning because he's so hungry and trying to say something is wrong I think. I'm feeding him 3 cans a day of FF, he is 12.7 lbs. I'm just not sure whether I should give him snacks or if I should feed him more or what.
 
The reason he is so hungry is because at the moment he is not able to utilise all the nutrients in the food. This is a very common thing in unregulated diabetic cats. Once he gets into more normal numbers he will be less hungry.
Are you giving snacks during the cycles at the moment?
I would give him more food if he is so hungry unless he is overweight. You could try adding a teaspoon of warm water to each snack. This will help hydration and might make him feel a bit fuller.
I would try and swap to a longer acting insulin where it has a longer duration if you can

I would give regular snacks, especially during the first half of the cycles. If you work and are not home, I would look at maybe getting an automatic timed feeder so he can get those snacks. I'm sure he will be much more settled if he knows he will get regular snacks and is not as hungry.

The vet is trying to have him do a glucose curve at the clinic but I was previously able to do it at home. (To see the increase in insulin that’s necessary) is this necessary or should I fight them on this?

Hi Charlotte, looking at your SS I see a 12 hr BG curve was done on the 3rd. If that was you (and not at the vet) and you are comfortable with doing the tests, then I would say you are much better off doing it yourself, with Brioche at home and calmer, not stressed at being at the vet for a full day. Unless they have a very good reason to do this in-clinic, I doubt there is any benefit by having them do the curve. (I think most everyone here would agree that you will get more accurate, actual BG levels at home, especially if kitty is fairly calm about the whole process for you. For sure you want to keep your vet up to date with all of your test results, so they can help guide you with dosing, ( I would always print off my SS for my vet visits) and provide them with your curve reults.
PS looks like the 383 reading needs to be moved up one line to today's date ;)

Thank you! It was me who did the curve.He does really well for me and has even started purring while I hold him. I think he’d be much more comfortable at home. (Ty for the spreadsheet thing lol I totally missed that)
 
he sounds like a Peach!!!!!! :cat: lol.... so good to hear the shots and tests are going smooth. I see no reason why you can't do the curve at home.... just wondering,... did you increase his dose tonight to 4?
 
he's a cutie!!!!! I gotta say I'm not an expert on dosing advice by any means, but there are many others here that are.... I only asked out of concern :bighug: and its very good news that you are following your vet advice. (sometimes furbaby owners will adjust a dose without any consultation:(). I am sure others will weigh in here, so far so good, you got over some big hurdles quickly. Always wonderful news,..... you are in a good place here. And keep asking questions! :cat::D

I totally understand and appreciate it! Just taking all of the advice that I can to get him healthy, this forum has been a huge help.
