Hi everyone,

Feel free to read my older posts about Smoke to see what's going on. He's still being treated with DM and great numbers- 69 yesterday AM! However, the weight gain is non-existent and today i noticed a very scary and LARGE scab/open wound/looks-like-skin-is-separating thing on his back. Now, he has had some scabs before, but NEVER this large or painful. He was getting a Malesab bath 1-2x a week up until recently due to some fungus. But this new scab is horrific.

Any similar experiences or knowledge as to what this can be? I'm starting to really believe he has cancer........

Last Senior Blood Panel revealed only diabetes- everything else was fine. He is off the pred and gets enzymes with his DM along with cosequin.

Cushings is very hard to diagnose in cats. There is not simple test for it.
Can you provide a photo?
Has he been scratching it?

An important difference to note is that while only 10% of dogs with Cushing’s disease develop diabetes mellitus, 80% of cats with Cushing’s disease develop diabetes mellitus. Diabetes in an animal with Cushing’s disease is difficult to control until the Cushing’s disease is controlled. That does not sound like your case

Here's the best I can get; I can try to get a better shot later, but this particular wound hurts him if you get too close/touch it.
it's on his lower spine on the left side

update: just found the missing clump of fur.....pretty large lump with some bloody matter at the base

No it doesn't. The clump was where he usually sleeps during the day. There was some stuff at the base of the clump, so it could have easily been a result of that. it's quite large, though....about an inch. I've been spraying it with vetericyn to keep it clean.
