How will travel affect Pepper?

Tomorrow I have to drive for almost 7 hours with Pepper. He ABSOLUTELY hates to drive!!! How will this affect him? Should I test every hour?

well his bg's will go up but testing every hour would just make the trip longer imo. Just make sure he has his needs taken care of and hope he gets comfortable enough to go to sleep. Good luck

I just drove Junior from LA to San Francisco a few weeks ago. He's normally a good traveler anyway but this was our first long car ride. I didn't shoot before the trip b/c I didn't want to deal with a hypo while on the road. I also didn't monitor b/c I didn't want to be on the road longer than I had to.

On our way there we left after he used the litterbox. We also had an open litterbox on the floor of the back seat. An hour before arriving we took him out to see if he'd go but he was too shell shocked in being outside his carrier that he had stage fright and didn't go. We made it and he was a happy kitty. Only regret was that I should've packed some treats for him. We didn't want to risk him barfing in the car but didn't want him to starve. He was fine.

Oh on our way back he didn't use the LB before we left. Luckily he didn't have any accidents.

Good luck!

We just traveled with Tiggy -- about 8.5 hours Monday and again on Wednesday.

We had a collar and tag on him and let him loose in the car while we were driving.

His cage door was open, and we have food and water set up on a placemat and a litterbox.

He was mostly either in his cage on the bed or laying by the food.

On Monday, we gave his regular food and shot in the morning -- and started our trip at +7
by the time we got to the hotel at +15.5, he was over 300. (we did not stop to test and shoot at his regular time)

On Wednesday, he was a bit low in the morning, so he got a half dose. We left the hotel at +2 and got home at +10 or so.
At shot time, he was at 180.

In the car, he doesn't eat as much as usual and he doesn't exercise as much as usual.

He travels better than I expected. His BG's were normal and after we let him out of the carrier, he settled down and slept most of the way.
