When Scooter has his blue-green nights like tonight, he gets all riled up and wants to PLAY! He gets so into it that he tears around the house jumping all over my nice couches and knocking stuff off the window sill. Buying toys is so overwhelming, I don't even know where to start. He loves catnip and loves to chase things but he is a mean player, he bites and rabbit kicks so I need a toy that doesn't put my limbs and/or clothing at risk of shredding. Help me!

This is an AWESOME toy http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CFEQ8wIwAQ

Good for the lazy hooman. It has a long reach and does lots of fun things. Even my 16 year old cat still likes to play with it.

Ohh... it's just a piece of fleece on a pole... I have sooo much polar fleece lying around cause I make small animal hammocks... I didn't even think of that :) I have an old wooden dowel I can use... thanks for the idea!

Hmm... well he likes it enough, but it suffers the same issues as all other toy on a pole/string do... he never lets it go!! I have to fight with him for 5 mins to get him to let it go so we can play again... otherwise he just sits and gnaws on it...

I love that he's got his energy back, but I don't love him tearing at my antique couches and knocking my potted plants off the window sill :(

Ping pong balls are my favorite on a hard floor. The cats have a hard time getting them under control and pretty much play with themselves until they lose it under the couch/fridge/oven. If you have awesome shag carpet they aren't as great, but can still be tossed in the bathtub for hours of joy (plug in the drain though).

I love reading this, Ry! You asked for personality you got it. He sounds like a funny, little guy. :dizcat All that energy & playful exerice is good for FD.
It makes me happy that Scooter is feeling so much better.
Thank you for keeping us updated with Scooter. In the beginning I was really worried about both of you.

Walmart has an awesome toy, it is a solid ball of catnip about the same size as a ping pong ball. Also a sure fire favorite here is this plastic ring with a ball in the track, mine will attack that for hours, trying to figure out how to get the ball out...lol

My civvies love a small box (shoe box or a little bigger) with an 'arm' hole or 2 cut in the side or top and lo carb treats tossed in. Also a noisy ball or a catnip knot (piece of fleece about 5 inches by 10 inches, tsp of catnip in middle, roll lengthwise and tie in knot - cheap to make and easy to refill). And a good ol' piece of string dragged around works too. Be careful not to let it get eaten though.

The favorites in my house are the Deluxe Turbo Scratcher, a ring that a light up ball that changes colors goes round and round as they swat & try to get it and the center is a replaceable cardboard scratcher that they scratch to death. I have them in 3 rooms. They even sleep on them! The other favorite is a cat dancer, similar to that one but it has a bunch of cardboard pieces on the end and a flexible stainless steel wire that they chase around holding the cardboard. they like that better than the fabric one but it has to be supervised. We played a game where we took turns, first one cat, then the other and they were very good at waiting once they got the hang of cooperating.

I took a long skinny cardboard box and cut holes in the top and at the end. I put all his small toys in the box. He spends a lot of time poking his legs into the holes and his head through the end, getting the toys out. Once he gets one, he seems very proud and chases it around the room. Cheap and corrals the toys.

If you have lots of fleece or other fabric, make your own catnip toys. Make a "snake": sew a tube of fleece about 12" long and 4" around, stuffed with fiberfill and catnip. It's great for aggressive play, rabbit kick style. Make a "pillow": sew a little 3" square pillow, stuffed like the snake.

My guys love the plastic rings from the milk bottles. They carry them, bat them, throw them in the air. They also like anything with feathers. They also like the laser, and the "dat bird" toy.

You might also need to trim his nails...

how about getting him a kitty friend? nothing like a young overactive kitty to play with :-D

This is what I was going to say as soon as I saw the post. There's NOTHING better! How 'bout another meezer kitten?

I know you're having a heart attack right now!!!!

You must be so happy to have him healthy. You've done a good job.

Ohh.. I would love to get another kitten. But I don't know how he is with other cats... I would love to get a little female kitten, she could be his girlfriend... lol

He has one of the crinkly catnip square toys from DCIN... he likes to chew on it every once in a while but not a huge fan. His favorite is the scratching post... only problem is it's made of a shag-style carpet and he's so aggressive he pulls little pieces of it out and they get all over my carpet  He had a rope style one before and wasn't a big fan... I think he likes the carpet one so much because he can dig his claws into it and drag it around the floor... cats
