How to open BCP-PZI

This may seem like a silly question but I am truly perplexed. I'm not new to the diabetic kitty world but I am new to BCP-PZI which I plant to start soon. I just received the U50 10ml vial yesterday. I do not want to force or break it. It has a purple metal cap. Toward the center of the cap is a smaller diameter circle that looks as though it is pre punched. It looks like maybe the inner metal is broken at the pre punches and removed to expose the seal for needle insertion? Or does the entire purple metal cap twist off in its entirety to expose the seal for needle insertion? Used moderate force on that assumption and the purple cap wouldn't budge and I will not apply real force until I know. I know there is always something to learn on this board. Can anyone help me out? I guess I can also call the Vet Pharm Hospital to get their instructions tomorrow. Thanks for any answers? Hooyer D

I called and talked to BCP one time-I probably got the number from a website or maybe the pzi stickies. Thats my best suggestion. actually I've used it and I don't remember it being any different than a normal vial...just smaller....hmmm.
well call them.

Thanks I did call BCP today. I can't say I'm a fan of their method but it is what it is. The vial is totally covered with a purple metallic cap with a somewhat perforated inner circle. You must take a knife and start a cut to get under the perforation and pry the inner piece out. Then you are exposed to the seal for needle insertion. After cutting and prying out the inner piece, the surface of the vial seal had micro pieces of purple metal laying cross it. YIKES! Right where the needle goes in. I cleaned that ultra good before using. BCP told me they get lots of calls on how to open the vial so I don't really feel too bad anymore. The pharmacist told me they wanted to protect it well until use so that is their method. In My opinion a risky solution. Push too hard when getting the knife in to pry the piece out and you are cutting right into the vial seal immediately under it. Or in my case, spraying the top of the vial with micro metal particles. Wouldn't sealing it in a sterile bag accomplish the objective also? Anyway it is open and shot number one at 1 unit has been injected with BG 215 on the way up. I probably have one of the best cats for diabetes, she makes it ultra easy on me ( I should make a video showing what a cool, calm time the entire process is from testing to injecting. We talk and have a jolly good bonding time), so small challenges like opening the insulin are appreciated compared to the challenges other have to face. Hooyer
