I am a medical student and for the next month, then in april-may i will be working CRAZY hours.
today worked 12 hours, and will work 12 hours M-F...today, i was 1 hour late dosing my cat.
this isn't good, but i don't know what to do about it.

is there a way to 'make up' for this ocassional schedule change? i guess i can start giving her insulin right before i walk out the door, so i have a better chance of giving her the second dose 12 hours later.
ugh. this is frustrating! kitties numbers are so picky already!

thanks for help.

Hi Alexia,

the first thing I would suggest is keep a running condo/thread each day.
This will help us keep track of Wednesday's progress and your schedule.

Would you like to make this today's condo and spend some time updating on Wednesday?

You may of had suggestions in your last threads here in Lantus Land about your schedule and ways to work around it as well as how to make up your time....this is why we ask that you link previous days condo or the last condo you had. Makes it easier to look back at what last went on with Wednesday and your day.

you should make up your time, as every late shot and early shot off a 12/12 schedule affects Wednesdays progress.

that sounds good. i didn't even know that was possible.
i will look into that later, but i don't think i ever learned how to deal with being off schedule.
i have read several posts, but no one really explained how to get her on track, or what to do if you are late with doses, etc.

thanks again!

Alexia, on M/T/W I'm 12 hours out the door, too - in nursing school (yes, they work us as hard as they work you...LOL...). Those days, I test and shoot as I'm walking out the door and coming in the door; it's the only way it works. Sometimes, I come, test, shoot, and leave again for another study group, too (usually on mondays...). So it can be done. It just takes some discipline to do it...and knowing that you won't get the data on those days, so make it up with more frequent data collection on those days you're not on the floor for 12 hours.

It'll come right...it has for me.

Best-
Michele

Being off schedule with Lantus is hard, especially if numbers are in the lower range. Because of shed and overlap, a late shot is like a decreased dose and an early shot is like an increased dose. If you are late shooting in the PM, ideally, you would shoot 12 hours later in the AM which will probably not work well for when you need to be at a rotation. You can shift times by 15 min. each cycle without there being too big of a problem.

When numbers are high, there is a possibility of making up as much as an hour all at once. However, if you are trying to do this in the morning, it would be best if you can get at least a +1 test in.

What wasn't clear from your schedule issue is if you are working 12 hrs., how far off schedule will you be? If you are 15 min. from school, it's not an issue. If it's a 90 min. haul, that's an entirely different issue.

One possibility is to post on Health and see if there is a Board member near you. The Philly area has a lot of members. Maybe you can swap test and shoot services with someone if the time issue is really onorous.
