Hi! We are 3 weeks newly diabetic. Petey was taking 1u glargine, then 1.5 and just started 2u yesterday, 2x day. His BG thus far is typically 375 or higher. I am terrified of hypoglycemia. How quickly can they go from off the charts to down and out?

Hello and welcome. Are you home testing his blood sugars? Just wondering where the 375 came from. It's not unusual for cats in the beginning to show some high numbers. But if numbers are taken at the vet, stress can make them higher than they would be at home. It is also possible for cats to go both up and down on the same day. If we could see more of your test data, we will be able to give more specific help. You will see that most of us keep our cat's blood sugar data in spreadsheets. We learn to use the patterns in data to see what is really happening with our cats. Details on the spreadsheet and more are in this post:

Do you have a hypo kit at home, just in case? A couple useful posts:

One other thing, I changed your GA prefix to the "?". GA stands for Guardian Angel or Gone Ahead, and is our signal that our kitty is no longer with us. :(. Sounds like that is thankfully not Petey. How is he doing other than his blood sugar numbers? How did you find out he was diabetic?

Hi and welcome.
A kitty can drop into hypo numbers quickly if the dose is too high.
If you are hometesting you can see what is happening to the blood glucose ( BG) and can intervene before the BG drops too far.
That is the only way to truly keep your kitty safe.
If you need help with learning to hometest, we can help you.
Keep asking questions.:)

Thank you for the responses. I don't have a speadsheet set up yet as we just started testing both with ear pricks and just over one day of the Libre 3 sensor before he tore it off! The 375 average is at home, at the vet and at home he's been well over 400. The lowest recording was 275 one time while he was admitted at the hospital. I have since removed dry food and feed Rawz canned. We are not crazy about testing cause we are not good at it yet, so I'm nervous with the increase. He seems to be good when his numbers are below 400, eating like a champ, stopped drinking as much, and has put on a little weight.

I appreciate the support and all the previous posts. I am obsessed with doing what is best for him and learning everything.

If you can set up the spreadsheet and signature we will be able to help you a lot more. We rely on the data in the SS for dosing advice.
It’s great you are hometesting. Keep persevering… you will soon both get used to it and it will become routine.
