hiya, am spending my first night away from home without Angel being tested.

I'll be away from home up to 24 hours, my friend will call in and see he's ok. I'm going to leave him the Smilla poultry pots to graze on which is even more low carb than the purina diabetic. I usually let him graze anyway. I'm sure he'll be fine but am feeling nervous.

How often should he be tested now he's on remission? I'm usually doing twice a day as I used to.

Hi Cassondra,

When Jersey went into remission, I was told to check twice a day for the first 14 days (the OTJ trial) and then to keep checking about once a week after that. I know it's supposed to be harder to get a kitty back into remission a second time around, so you want to be able to catch a "fall out of remission" quickly. I think that's why the once-a-week testing is helpful; you can catch any potential issues early.

Hope that helps!
Shelly

ETA: I do check more often if I try a new food just to make sure there isn't a problem.

thanks, that's set my mind at rest about tonight!!

Some vets like to give it about a month so I'll probably test at least every day when I can x
