How Often Do You Feed Your Cat?

Wondering how often I should be feeding my cat. Does she need more frequent, smaller feedings while on insulin?
 
Five small meals a day (one meal is a "catsicle" left out overnight). We started feeding several meals a day when Henry was on insulin but have kept it up since he's been in remission, and his numbers are still good so I am not rocking that boat!
 
I was wondering that same thing! 2 main meals vs. many small throughout the day. I feed Princess a 3oz can for breakfast &again at dinner. Usually she has freeze dried chicken treats or a oz. of ff with any bg test i do during the day. She'd eat all day if I let her! She was once at least 23lbs. but now down to 14lbs.
 
Mini meals ten times per day (on and off insulin). Saoirse has pancreatitis and although she might eat fewer, larger meals left to her own devices they would cause digestive discomfort.
 
I do the same as BJM - the food goes down twice a day and the cats have access to it all the time. There are 6 cats so the speed the food disappears at varies, but I usually find there's a little food left at the next feeding time.
 
First of all, is your cat receiving insulin? If so, how much and how often? My cat receives insulin twice daily. So, I have found that feeding her smaller, more frequent feedings helps to maintain a more stable blood sugar. I cannot leave and food out other than a feeding times. Absolutely no dry whatsoever. Dry kibble cause her blood sugars to soar. She, and the other non-diabetic cats are all on the same feeding schedule. Five times daily for our household; but, it seems to be working. I'm wondering this too. My cat is on 2 units Vetsulin 2xday. He seems like he's starving at bedtime, or in the middle of the night/first thing in the morning. How much is too much? I've been feeding 1 3oz can FF in the morning and dinner. 1/2 can in the middle of the day, 1/2 can at bedtime. That's 3 cans a day. Too much? He acts like he needs twice that!
 
If his numbers are still high at this point, then he might well need more food. While his BG is high, no matter how much he eats, he can't actually use the food as it can't get into his cells for energy. So he actually will be hungry all the time if that is the case.

If he's losing weight when he doesn't need to, or lost weight prior to diagnosis and finished up underweight and isn't putting any back on then he's not eating enough. If his weight is about what it should be and stable then he's eating enough. On the other hand, if he's overweight or gaining weight when he doesn't need to then he might be getting a bit too much food. It's also possible that his numbers are dropping low at certain points during the cycle and he's looking for food to help bring them back up.
