Hi folks,

Sorry for constant new threads. I worry a lot. Sam barely had any water today; maybe 50-100mls at most. He’s on an almost 100% wet food diet. He eats maybe 1.6 cans of 78% water wet food per day. So today that’s maybe 194 mls of water, plus 50-100 ml’s is around 244-294 mls today he’s had. He’s 12 lb’s; is this normal?

Cats are not great drinkers. That is why a wet diet is much better for cats as it is high in moisture.
Most cats, not diabetic cats, if given a wet diet do not drink a lot of water. My two non diabetic cats are fed a wet diet and I never see one of them at the water and I see the other one occasionally at the water.
With a diabetic cat, it depends on how regulated they are as to how much water they drink. As you don’t have a spreadsheet it is very hard to say with Sam.
As long as he is not dehydrated I’m sure he is drinking what he needs. You can always add a teaspoon of warm water to all his snacks.

A good way to check if a cat is dehydrated is to observe the condition of their nose and paw pads, and if their skin stays "tented" when pinched and lightly tugged. Here's a link from Cornell University further detailing what I mean.
