How much to feed

My vet wants me to keep my kitty on 200 calories a day. I'm having a hard time keeping him underfed - he acts like he's starving and wakes me up at 3 a.m. and then 4 a.m. for food - it's driving me crazy - I try to stall him until its time for his shot at 5:45 a.m. but that's a long time - I feel sorry for him- is it okay to partially feed them before their morning glucose check and shot?

Hate to disagree with an expert such as a vet but 200 calories is a big reduction from the 300+ that would probably maintain him at his current weight of 19 lbs. That is, if what is showing in your signature is current. He needs to lose weight slowly. Maybe try feeding him 270 calories per day and space out his meals so he gets fed 4 times per day plus a snack or two. Not that I’m an expert on kitty weight loss but Bama has been as high as 20 lbs. He is down to 17 or 16.8 on a good day.
