Hi all,

Casey wasn't eating much this morning, so I gave her 1/4 tablet of Pepcid, thinking her pancreatitis was kicking in.

By tonight, she still isn't really eating, although she wolfed down some cooked chicken I put down for her. Is she just being finicky? Can I give her another 1/4 tablet of Pepcid or is that too much in one day? She's also eating kitty treats, but turning up her nose at her cat food. She seems hydrated though, and is pooping and peeing and purring. I'm a little confused...

Thanks, Larry! I gave Casey another tablet last night before I went to bed and this morning she'd cleaned out her food bowl and was hungry for more. Pepcid is awesome! :-D

Did you give 'another tablet' or just 1/2 tablet? I wanted to be sure that you are giving the right one as you can get extra strength which is 20mg, and you can get the Pepcid Complete which has more than just famotidine in the ingredients.

If you are finding that the 1/4 tablet of the 10mg Pepcid (2.5mg) is having a positive effect, you can give it fairly long term.... I gave Shadoe Pepcid 1/4 tab BID for months, until I started giving her B12 shots weekly... in her case she had more of an inflammation problem and after the shots, I only seldom needed to give her any pepcid.

Oh - sorry, Blue, I should have been more specific! I meant I gave Casey 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet of generic famotidine (not Complete). Not a whole tablet. I have a pill splitter and I usually split about 3 or 4 whole pills at a time, so I always have the quarters handy.

Thanks for your response!

Great to hear! I love the pill cutters.

I figured you gave the right thing, but want to post to clarify as lots of people read and don't post, so for their benefit, I posted.

I hope it's helping, and you can give regularly for a length of time. Before I started the B12 shots, I was giving the pepcid and when it seemed all was well, I stopped the pepcid. Well, it did not take long for problems to come back with Shadoe, so I had to start again.
I ended up just giving BID until the B12.
