I just got the bloodwork back on one of my civies and the platelet count looks very low to me when I compare it the reference range.

The paperwork reads:

Platelet 106 reference range is 200-700x10(3)

Should I be worried?

Is there any annotation on the lab results to say that a blood-smear slide was microscopically examine? Some time, especially in feline blood, platelets clump together and results in an low reading my the automatic counter.

There is no notation of any kind other than it was low. But since it was run at our local human hospital I'm going to assume it wasn't looked at under a microscope.

But his HCT was high 45.1 ref 30.0-45.0
MCHC was low 29.0 ref 30.0-36.0
Platelet 106 ref 200-700
Dir Biliru high <.20 ref 0.00-0.10
AST (GOT) low 22 ref 60-110
Phosphorus low 3.8 ref. 4.0-6.4

Everything else was within normal standards.

we had the bloodwork done to try to figure out what is going on with him, he is showing signs of diabetes, excessive thirst, excessive hunger, meat-loafing, liquid poo, excessive urination, very vocal even for him (he's a meezer). and in a month he has dropped about half is body weight. He's gone from 10.5lbs on April 15th to 6.2 as of May 13th However is glucos is 103 and his T4 1.9 ref 1.3-2.9

So I'm assuming he isn't diabetic or hyper-t, both his vet and I are now clueless.

Wow that is a huge amount of weight to lose. He needs to get an abdominal ultrasound ASAP. Are you near a referral center? Can you get him in in the next few days, or take him in on emergency and get him hospitalized for dehydration and pain management?

Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one freaking out over his weight loss, he doesn't look bad at his current weight but feels thin. My vet didn't seem overly concerned..but I'm concerned. He is literally screaming for food about every 2 hours. Unfortunately I live in the sticks, there is no referral or emergency vet, anywhere even remotely close. Monday will be the earliest at best to get him back into my vet. At least for the moment the poo issues seem to be clearing up, it's still softer than it should be, but at least it isn't liquid anymore. And the thirst is a little less, but I've been adding more water to his food. He's an indoor only cat and is shedding buckets, however, while the rest of his housemates are shedding right now, not like this guy. So something is definitely off.

Guess I'm just going to have to haul him back in and suggest strongly that they run some more test until we figure out what is going on with him. I hate dragging him in because he gets so stressed out, but I've got to get this figured out. I really expected the way he has been about screaming for food that I was going to test him and discover I had anothr sugarcat, but that is the one thing I can feel safe in knowing he isn't. <sigh>

Back to the drawing board.
