If I were to prefill syringes with lantus how long would they be good for in the fridge? The reason I ask is I may go away for a couple days and prefill them for someone that is watching my kitty.

Lantus specifically says that syringes shouldn't be pre-filled....what most of us do is lower the dose while we're away and then leave a "sample syringe" with a colored liquid in it for the pet-sitter to compare to when they draw it up

Dre was not holding reductions so instead of a full .25 decrease I just shaved a little off it-I put colored water in a syringe to match it to be more consistent in his dose.

Yes...the manufacturer doesn't recommend pre-loading syringes at all.

Summary: Aventis Pharmaceuticals does not recommend prefilling syringes with Lantus and storing for any period longer than needed for application. In addition BD states the following (9): “BD does not recommend that any of our syringes be prefilled more than a few minutes in advance of the injection. There are no conclusive studies to determine the safety or risks associated with this practice.”
