How long does a vial last?

Hi Friends,

I received my vial back in late July of Prozinc. I recently saw "floaties" in it last night. Does that mean its bad or going bad?

For most people, ProZinc lasts 6 months. Floaties are not usually a good sign, although the most important indicator is whether the insulin is still "working" - i.e. keeping his numbers in the usual ranges. If you start to see higher ranges than you are used to, old insulin is one of the options to consider. When you bought it, did it come from the Vet? Or did he order it for you? I would go back to him and tell him you have floaties after little more than a month and you are concerned that you did not get a new vial originally.

I was thinking the same thing with Sue. If you got it from your vet, go back to your vend fit and out where and when they got it. I get mine from the vet. Most of the time, they have to order it but the last time, they had it in their office so all they had to do was to bottle it for me. I asked them how long they had it because I didn't want them to have it sitting in their frig for the last six months and then my bottle goes bad after two months. So be sure to ask how fresh the insulin is.

Since you have floaties, I always heard that it was not good to see floaties in the insulin. I would take it back to the vet to get them to replace it. That is way too soon for it to go bad if indeed it is bad.
