Hi..........

Davidson has been on the juice for 3 weeks and doing very well. If you look at my SS you'll see I've kept busy attending to his BG test numerous times during the day. I would like to spend a day skiing this weekend and wonder how I'm supposed to leave if he needs his tests done??????

I can be here for the AMPS and PMPS, but would like to get 6 hrs in the day to do something.

Is that possible?? What do others do when they live alone and don't have anyone to do the extra tests?

Thanks

Shawna

Re: How do you leave for a day\/

I work during the day and often cannot get home to test (today looks like it's turning out to be one of those days :YMSIGH: ). At some point you're gonna have to trust that Davidson will be fine for a few hours without you. ;-) You've been getting some very nice numbers lately. If you're truly worried, you can always give a slightly decreased dose for the AM.

Re: How do you leave for a day\/

Dusty went OTJ fairly quickly so I never had to deal with that but I'm sure most people either have a friend or family member do the testing/injecting or board the kitty and have a vet/vet tech take care of injecting. If this is just one day or most of the day and you can still test and inject at AM and PM then he should be fine. I'm at work about 10 hours a day and nothing crazy happened. You just have to trust everything will be ok, you need a life too! :-D

I commute into Manhattan and was often out of the house 10-11 hours a day when Nikki was on the juice. I had an auto feeder for her, so I would set it to feed her 2-3 times during the hours I wasn't home. That way I knew she'd have food to keep her steady during the day. I did a lot of my testing at night and on weekends and just had to sit in my office and worry during the week. She did totally fine without me! :-D

Thanks..........food isn't the issue since both Guys graze (Harley is not FD)...........it was all the testing that had to be done but I see the pattern and I'm sure Davidson would like to get rid of me too!

Good luck! It's nice when they get into those nice flat blue and green waves. Much less bouncing around and less worry about leaving for the day. Enjoy at few hours off from testing! :thumbup

I worry about this as well, but more say a day to two days? Me and my husband don't have any family here and no one we trust enough to come to our house when we're not home. Usually are trips are Saturday night to Sunday night (lol road warrior trips) My husband works M-Sat. 7-7:30 at the earliest lol and doesn't take vacation time. He has ONCE in 12 years and that was 2 days lol. Every time we'd take an over night trip we'd give them their wet food right before we left and leave out an abundant amount of dry food till we came home. I'd hate to board Hidey for that amount of time for several reasons. One being I'd feel horrible but also I know my other two cats would freak out without him, and I can't imagine the expense or chaos in boarding 3 cats.

DirtyBirdSoaps -- Have you looked into hiring a pet sitter or stating where in Florida you are located because there may be a member close by whom you can meet and maybe help you out with testing when you're not home.

That's the second part of my issues.............I go on 2-3 day trips often and Harley & Davidson were good on their own, let alone the week and three week vacations throughout the year...........I do have a pet sitter and she used to give insulin to a rabbit so maybe I can train her for Davidson..........better yet, maybe by summer Davidson will be OTJ and I won't have to worry, fingers crossed.
