How do snacks effect a glucose curve?

Hi everyone. I have only posted on the intro board, as we are new. Simba has his 2nd at-home glucose curve Tuesday. Contrary to what the vet has instructed, I am feeding him 4 times a day (breakfast, midday snack, dinner, bedtime snack). He has IBD, so smaller frequent meals are best for that to keep him from vomiting.

He is on a virtually carbohydrate-free diet of freeze-dried raw, and his bedtime kibble snack is zero carbohydrate Young Alive kibble. His curve will be over anyway when he has that.

My question to the group. Will his midday snack, freeze-dried raw, cause his glucose to spike and distort his curve? It is the same food he has for his first 3 feedings of the day. I don't think so, but wanted to check with all of you. Thanks for your thoughts.

Sorry - I don’t have any answers to your question, actually I am waiting to hear more experienced folks’ answers - I feed my kittie 6 times a days and am concerned about how those meals will effect a curve also.
Wanted to say, Simba is beautiful-what stunning eyes!!!

Hi Mariella, from what I have read on this board, you can feed as usual during your curve. Members that are new to diabetes treatment are encouraged to withhold food for two hours before the pre-shot tests AM and PM, to get an idea of those blood sugar levels without being affected by food.

You can feed as usual during the 12 hour cycle, and the treats just should be low carb also, which it looks like you are doing.

As soon as you can, please get the spreadsheet set up so we can see what BG numbers you are getting for the pre-shot tests, and any other testing you are doing.
