How Bad is Cream Cheese for a Diabetic?

I should have known better, but I left the cream cheese from breakfast this morning on the counter unguarded for about 2 seconds while grabbing my bagel out of the toaster and when I turned around Musette was happily munching away, purring up a storm. I know hard cheeses aren't that bad for a diabetic kitty for an occasional treat but what about cream cheese, this was regular plain cream cheese not the soft spread stuff and from I read on the label it looks like it only has 2 grams of carbs and 1 gram of sugar in an ounce, and she got no where near an ounce of it...maybe only a bite or two.

I give lots of meds in cream cheese, Tucker ate it every day, didn't touch his BGs but every kitty is different.

Sweet Potato eats a lot of cream cheese and he's still OTJ.

Whew because she LOVES it...lol I have never her purr so loud since she came here...I think I may have found the perfect testing treat as she has turned her nose up to everything else. I could hear her purring from across the room, and normally you don't hear her purr, unless you are right up next to her, and a lot of the time I more feel her purring that actually hearing it, But with cream cheese she sounds like a chainsaw on overdrive! Who knew such a little cat could purr that loud.

Glad to know this.... Quess I will add this to my groc. list for the girls. I think Bean would love this too

LOL same with Musette...I've tried boiled chicken, sardines, shrimp, tuna, cheddar cheese etc and nothing...she turns her nose up at everything but her regular catfood...but man for Cream cheese she will turn on the motorboat, and do cartwheels...Heck she hasn't even shown an interest to jump up on the counters until this morning going after that cream cheese...It surprised me so much that it was even her that it took me a few minutes to react..lol. And I thought I was going to lose an arm trying to get it away from her..Now I have to go apologies to her and give her another bite when I test her before her lunch...hehe

Mel, I give Checkers small bits of cream cheese ( I use lowfat myself). It doesn't effect his bg.
He can smell that stuff in his sleep. He goes NUTS over it.

I looked up low carb meal options a few weeks ago - one of the more popular pizza recipes had cream cheese as the base for the dough!
