As for the 250 reading, it's high but some cats run much higher and it all depends on where in the cycle that number occurred .....right before insulin or several hours after the insulin. It's important not to focus on one reading. What you want to do is get readings over time and a pattern will emerge. That pattern is what enables you to figure out how best to move forward with your kitty!

There's not really good and bad, more like high and low. Generally, 250 is high but not terribly so. But you can't just look at a number and say whether or not it's good or bad/high or low, because it's dependent on so many other factors, like weight of cat, diet, type and dosage of insulin, etc. Also every cat is different (ECID), so what's high for one cat might not be particularly high for another. Sorry I don't have a simpler answer for you!

It would really be great if you could put some information in your signature line, it makes it easier for us to see, at a glance, things like your kitty's name, age of kitty, date of Dx, type of insulin, kitty's diet, any other conditions or medicines, etc. Just click on your name at the top right side of the page and click on Signature in the drop-down menu. I'd also like to invite you to download and set up our spreadsheet.

It's the best way to keep track of your kitty's blood glucose readings, and it's helpful to us to be able to see it if you need help or advice. :)

I've been trying to get another reading from Prudence for the last forty-five minutes and she is not having it. I don't think she likes the sound the lancer thing makes. But I'm not skilled enough to prick her ear or pad without it. I feel like she is not going to want to come to me anymore.:( I'll try again later.

Warm the ear a lot, lot longer than you think is necessary. And don't forget the yummy treats for Prudence. ;)
