Houdini Update and more ques about Buprenex..Frustrated!!

Prelim report from lab shows no crystals but bacteria present .... apparently culture is not done or Dr would have called. So now we wait to find out what ATB to use to fight this over the weekend??? It's hard to watch him either loopy from the bupe or going from box to box obviously in pain. Can you tell I'm frustrated??? 7 days with a UTI ... is this going to cause some permanent damage?

Sorry......I've been averaging 4 hrs sleep every night this week with his dosing schedule so I'm getting cranky here

So the ER called to see how he was and I asked about the bupe they gave me and if it was different than those little vials my vet gave me since the dose is the same....she said what they gave me was compounded. Is she nuts or is injectible the same as oral??
I have no experience with bupe and don't want to do the wrong thing here.....My vet doesnt have much experience either so I'm a little uneasy

If I can manage to break these stupid vial things open do I just pour it into a little bottle to draw from or what? Someone said that it would become contaminated.... If so then how do I get it into the cats mouth??? I only have insulin syringes and one sterile cc/ml syringe....

Maybe pull it up with the insulin syringe, squirt into a little clean cup and then sip it back up with the oral syringe which you can rinse out. I'm surprised that after taking the urine for a culture the vet didn't put Houdini on a broad spectrum ab just to get started until the culture comes back.

He was already on 10 days of Baytril for an ear infection when he came down with the UTI so I'm just not sure why he didn't

Reagan is much better..... eating for all he's worth, which is affecting his BG's so maybe he won't be diet controlled after all. His eye is still watering though.....

When we were given bupe to inject or gie orally, it was in the syringes and they showed us the needles just popped off and we could give orally that way. Can the vials have a needle tip put on them?
Sorry of that doesn't help. Hope they get some healing meds in him soon poor guy.
